Follow us to learn what is a hydraulic press

November 13, 2024
A hydraulic press (also known as an oil press) is a machine that uses a relatively small hydraulic piston to apply pressure to a liquid and transfers the pressure to another piston with a larger area, thereby generating a correspondingly large mechanical force. A hydraulic press is generally composed of three parts: a main piston, a power system, and a hydraulic control system. Hydraulic presses are divided into valve hydraulic presses, hydraulic control hydraulic presses, and engineering hydraulic presses. In addition to forging and forming, hydraulic presses can also be used for straightening, pressing, packaging, briquetting, pressing plates, etc. It is often used in extreme processes and extreme forming processes such as forging, stamping, cold extrusion, straightening, bending, flanging, sheet metal stretching, powder metallurgy, and pressing.

The working principle of the hydraulic press is based on Pascal's law, that is, in a closed liquid system, the pressure transmission is uniform. When the hydraulic pump is started, the liquid is pumped into the hydraulic cylinder, causing the hydraulic cylinder piston to be pressurized and exert force outward. By adjusting the control valve, the inflow and outflow of the liquid can be controlled, thereby controlling the movement of the hydraulic cylinder.
Hydraulic Press
The hydraulic power press uses the incompressibility of the liquid and the transmission properties of force to achieve force amplification and conversion. When the hydraulic cylinder piston is under pressure, the liquid will be evenly transferred to other parts of the hydraulic cylinder, so that the entire hydraulic cylinder produces uniform pressure. Due to the incompressibility of the liquid, the hydraulic cylinder piston is subjected to greater pressure, thereby achieving force amplification. Through the combination of hydraulic cylinders and pistons of different sizes, different degrees of force amplification and control can be achieved.

Among them, hydraulic press has six main application areas, as follows:

1. Stamping and deep drawing of metal sheet parts. Mainly used for the forming of metal covering parts in the automotive and home appliance industries.

2. Pressure forming of metal mechanical parts. Mainly includes die forming, extrusion forming, hot and cold die forging, free forging and other processing technologies of metal profiles.

3. Powder products industry. Such as magnetic materials, powder metallurgy, etc.

4. Pressing and forming of non-metallic materials, such as SMC molding, glass fiber resin hot pressing, rubber products, etc.

5. Hot pressing of wood products. Such as plant fiberboard and profile hot pressing.

6. Other applications. Such as pressing, correction, plastic sealing, embossing and other processes.

An automated hydraulic press is a machine that uses liquid as a working medium to transfer energy to achieve various processes. In addition to forging, hydraulic presses can also be used for calibration, press fitting, packaging, Hydraulic briquette press and hydraulic press plate, etc.
Hydraulic presses include water presses and oil presses. The one with water-based liquid as the working medium is called a water press, and the one with oil as the working medium is called an oil press. The specifications of hydraulic presses are generally expressed in nominal working force (kN) or nominal tonnage (tons). Most hydraulic presses used for forging are hydraulic presses with larger tonnage. In order to reduce the size of the equipment, large hydraulic presses often use higher pressures (about 35MPa), and sometimes use more than 100MPa. Hydraulic presses for other purposes generally use a working pressure of 6 to 25MPa. The tonnage of an oil press is lower than that of a hydraulic press.
